My Corny Valentines – #1

January 20, 2013

So another Valentine’s Day will be soon upon us and with it comes a few ideas for cookies from me!  Granted, they are pretty silly this year.  Ron and I will be in Florida come February 14th so I’ll be wishing my family a Happy Valentine’s Day via Facetime and hopefully their cards will arrive from the US Postal Service on time.

The first of my Valentine cookie assortment for this year is the least corny and actually my favourite.  My son-in-law always tells his two girls, my grand-daughters, that he loves them to the moon and back so I felt it only fitting to make a cookie that expressed that sentiment.

When I showed Ella and Sophie this cookie they both said *Aww, cute* and I think it is too.  The fact that it is really easy to make helps in the likeability factor, at least for me.

Got someone in your life that you love to the moon and back?  Tell them again on Valentine’s Day with this cookie.

Love you to the moon and back

I used the large square frame cutter to make this cookie but any shape that leaves room to write the words will do just fine.  Using electric blue mixed with a little bit of black icing, I piped around the cookie with a #2 tip.

Outline

When the piping was dry, the cookie was flooded with the blue.  Best to leave it dry overnight.  I find when working with dark and light colours, if you don’t let them dry long enough a little bleeding can occur (as you may notice in my next post).

 Flood

Next day, with bright yellow piping icing, pipe the outline of the moon with a #2 tip.

 Moon Outline Yellow

When dry, flood with the bright yellow icing.

Moon Flood

Again, with a #2 tip pipe a straight line down from the top of the moon to approximately 1/3 of the way down, stop above the moon’s nose.  With #2 tip and red icing, pipe and flood a little heart hanging from the line.

 Hanging Heart

Let the moon dry completely (overnight) and with a black food colouring pen, draw in the face details.  With your red icing, pipe and flood a tiny heart and with white piping icing, write *you to the moon and back*  Last but not least, brush the hanging heart with clear corn syrup and shake red sanding sugar over it.

To the moon and back

Be sure to give your cookie recipient a big hug and kiss when you deliver these and stayed tuned for more corny Valentine cookie ideas!

I used to share that same sentiment with my girls; so this take me back many years to those sweet, adorable little girls. Thanks for the memories…and an equally adorable cookie!

Those are such beautiful cookies. The boys and I say that to each other every night….Jakob likes to switch it up with other planets. Trying to decide which is furthest away.

Memories are being made. love.

Cute cookie, Paula! The dark blue color against that bright yellow is incredible. I love corny phrases around Valentine’s Day and can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us.

THESE are the darned cutest cookies I ever did see. Until now, I’ve never had an interest in cookie decorating. I’m going to try these…it may end up like one of those Pinterest fails you see from time to time, but I’m gonna do it anyway.
